Causes Of Stress

The modern world we live in results in very different causes of stress than the world of our grandparents. The type of jobs many have and the longer distances to get to those jobs puts a different kind of stress on our bodies. Our ancestors worked with their muscles so stress wasn’t as big an issue. Exercise relieves tension no matter what the cause of stress may be.

Many of us no longer have jobs that require manual labor.  We sit at a desk with a computer in front of us, or in a high tech tractor or truck cab where it doesn’t take much more than the touch of a finger to make things work, but our brains must be highly tuned to how things work – we think more than we act and that doesn’t allow our bodies to get rid of stress caused by our tasks.

It might be helpful to understand more about stress and the causes of stress. It may surprise you to learn that we sometimes bring stress upon ourselves simply because of our own irresponsible behavior, negative attitudes,  ill feelings, or unrealistic expectations. Stress is caused when we have so much to do that there isn’t time to do it.  It isn’t always work-related, but can be caused by unrealistic schedules in your home and family. Trying to do all and be all is the most prevalent cause of stress I can think of.

Some of the Most Common Causes of Stress Are:

  • Frustration brought about by unrealistic expectations, your own or someone else’s.
  • Pressures that are job related – these can imposed by a boss or just as often by you yourself.
  • Again, family issues often cause stress as we try to meet the needs of every family member, forgetting your own needs for renewal and relaxation.
  • Job loss, divorce, death, unsatisfactory job, money worries, even friends can impose unreasonable expectations on you that can be a cause of stress.
  • You may be pressured to get good grades, do well in your job, or even be the best housewife or the perfect mother.

Learning to cope with whatever causes stress is vital to our health and vitality. Stress can rob us of the desire to go on with the struggle so it is necessary to find ways to avoid what causes stress and ways to handle the stress that we can’t avoid. The constant barrage of stress-causing activities can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, and often other serious health conditions.

It is essential that we learn what causes stress on the body and equally necessary that we learn to control that stress.
